August 2005: A memorandum of understanding to set up Wenzhou-Kean University was signed between the New Jersey and Wenzhou governments. October 2010: 1.5 billion yuan ($225 million) was invested in the construction of the campus.
November 2011: The Ministry of Education officially approved its establishment.
September 2012: The first class of students were enrolled. Lu Shanzhen, mathematician and former president of Beijing Normal University, was appointed the first chancellor. April 2013: The university received approval to set up four majors: international business, economics, English and computer science. March 2014: The university was formally established. March 2015: Its first cohort of seven international students was welcomed.
