Wa­ter short­ages tack­led by project

The­Wa­ter Cel­lar forMothers project set up by China Women’s De­vel­op­ment Foun­da­tion has helped a to­tal of 370,000 im­pov­er­ished peo­ple with wa­ter sup­ply prob­lems in north­west­ern China’s Gansu prov­ince as of July 28, Xin­hua News Agency re­ports. Since the project was launched in the prov­ince in March 2001, 76 lo­cal cities, 193 coun­ties and 354 vil­lages have built 39,910 un­der­ground con­crete wa­ter stor­age cel­lars and 75 small wa­ter con­ser­va­tion works at a cost of over 64.75 mil­lion yuan ($ 9.76 mil­lion).
