Beijing makes a pitch at Citi Field
The 10th An Evening of Chinese Culture, featuring Beijing, was held at Citi Field in New York on Sept 3, during the baseball game between the New York Mets and the Washington Nationals. The event, Charming Beijing: Incredible Tourism Destination, was co-hosted by the Sin o-American Friendship Association and the Beijing Municipal Commission of Tourism Development. Wang Yue, BMCTD vice-director, threw out the ceremonial first pitch. A video promotion introducing China’s capital was played on the giant screens in the stadium. “Tourism is so important for our relationship. ... I hope through this event, the China-US Tourism Year could be further promoted,” said Zhang Qiyue (pictured third from left on Citi Field screen), Chinese consul general in New York, appearing with Spirit Award recipients. Also pictured are Spirit Award winner Li Li (center), Cimagine Media Group president. Representatives of other award-winners NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene Commissioner Marry Travis Bassett; China Eastern Airlines GM Ping Lu; New York state Assemblyman Michael DenDekker; Sing Tao Daily CEO Robin Mei and the New York Police Department’s Thomas Galati accepted the awards on their behalf.
