Pre­tend monk de­tained over fraud


A farmer in Jinan pre­tended to be an em­i­nent monk to cheat three sis­ters out of more than 40,000 yuan ($6,034). Sur­named Wang, the farmer from He­nan prov­ince was suf­fer­ing fi­nan­cial dif­fi­cul­ties. In July, 2014, hemet a woman, sur­named Liu, and told her that she would face sworn re­venge which he could help her avoid as he was an em­i­nent monk. In July and Au­gust of that year, Wang took more than 40,000 yuan from Liu and her two sis­ters, who fi­nally re­al­ized they were be­ing cheated and reported Wang to po­lice. Wang was de­tained re­cently and an in­ves­ti­ga­tion into the case is on­go­ing.
