China Daily (USA) - - CHINA -

A man who pretended to be a procurator to cheat people out of money has been sentenced to 12 years in prison and fined 100,000 yuan ($15,000). When Cheng Duwei, a resident of Neixiang county, entered a relationship early last year, he told his girlfriend he was a procurator at Zhengzhou city procuratorate. Between Feb 25 and Sept 8 last year, Cheng cheated the girl’s mother out of 1.02 million yuan, saying he would use the money to buy a house for them in Zhengzhou. When the woman and her mother discovered the deception in November, they reported Cheng to the police, and he was detained on Jan 14.
