Driver ‘30 per­cent re­spon­si­ble’

A taxi driver in Shuyang county was judged to be “30 per­cent re­spon­si­ble” for a traf­fic ac­ci­dent. The taxi driver, sur­named Cheng, was driv­ing on Oct 4 last year when he sawan elec­tric tri­cy­cle stop in the road and sounded his horn. The driver of the tri­cy­cle, which was car­ry­ing five pas­sen­gers, was star­tled by the sound. The ve­hi­cle tipped over, re­sult­ing in the death of one of the pas­sen­gers. The vic­tim’s fam­ily brought a law­suit against Cheng, and a court re­cently de­ter­mined that he was “30 per­cent re­spon­si­ble” for the ac­ci­dent. Cheng was or­dered him to pay the fam­ily 178,571 yuan ($26,770).
