Large lead, zinc de­posit found in Xin­jiang

A large lead and zinc de­posit, re­port­edly China’s largest, has been dis­cov­ered in the Xin­jiang Uygur au­ton­o­mous re­gion, lo­cal au­thor­i­ties said on Sun­day. The de­posit, with re­serves of nearly 19 mil­lion tons, is lo­cated 5,500 me­ters above sea level in Hotan county in south­ern Xin­jiang, ac­cord­ing to the re­gional ge­o­log­i­cal and min­ing bureau. Lo­cal ge­ol­o­gists spot­ted the 6.6-square-kilo­me­ter de­posit in 2011.
