Head of CCTV ap­pointed new chief of State me­dia reg­u­la­tor

The pres­i­dent of China Cen­tral Tele­vi­sion was ap­pointed head of the State Ad­min­is­tra­tion of Press, Pub­li­ca­tion, Ra­dio, Film and Tele­vi­sion on Thurs­day.

Nie Chenxi, who had been the vice-pres­i­dent of the ad­min­is­tra­tion since 2013, as well as the pres­i­dent of CCTV since April 2015, re­placed Cai Fuchao.

Nie will also take the man­tle of deputy head of the Com­mu­nist Party of China Cen­tral Com­mit­tee’s Pub­lic­ity Depart­ment.

Born in 1957 in North China’s He­bei prov­ince, Nie holds a doc­tor’s de­gree in man­age­ment science from Tian­jin Uni­ver­sity. He joined the Com­mu­nist Party of China in 1993.

He worked as an en­gi­neer in He­bei dur­ing his early ca­reer, and be­came the head of the prov­ince’s pub­lic­ity 2006.

In 2012, Nie en­tered the State Ad­min­is­tra­tion of Ra­dio, Film and Tele­vi­sion, the for­mer body of State Ad­min­is­tra­tion of the Press, Pub­li­ca­tion, Ra­dio, Film and Tele­vi­sion, as deputy Party chief.
