Pe­tro­leum com­pa­nies ex­posed among pol­luters

The Min­istry of En­vi­ron­men­tal Pro­tec­tion has fined 150 ma­jor com­pa­nies for dis­charg­ing ex­ces­sive pol­lu­tants in the first six months, with pe­tro­leum com­pa­nies ex­posed as the worst of­fend­ers.

Some com­pa­nies in the en­ergy and petro­chem­i­cal en­ter­prises ac­counted for a large share, and most of them were fined due to dis­charg­ing ex­ces­sive pol­lu­tants, ac­cord­ing to a state­ment from the min­istry on Tues­day.

For ex­am­ple, Jiangxi Hongyu En­ergy De­vel­op­ment Ltd has been fined 10.6 mil­lion yuan ($1.6 mil­lion) in the sec­ond quar­ter, the state­ment said.

Some branch en­ter­prises of the China Na­tional Pe­tro­leum Corp have been listed sev­eral times in the first six months, with a branch en­ter­prise from the pe­tro­leum gi­ant in Dalian city of Liaon­ing prov­ince re­ceiv­ing con­stant fines from the min­istry in the first two quar­ters, reach­ing 14.4 mil­lion yuan, the largest fine as yet.
