Tail­ings leak pol­lutes 346-kmwa­ter­way

Tail­ings that leaked into Taishi River in Long­nan in Novem­ber last year— and have been traced to an an­ti­mony pro­cess­ing cen­ter— have con­tam­i­nated more than 300 kilo­me­ters of wa­ter­way. The in­ci­dent re­sulted in 61 mil­lion yuan ($9.1 mil­lion) in di­rect eco­nomic losses, ac­cord­ing to theMin­istry of En­vi­ron­men­tal Pro­tec­tion. Wa­ter sup­ply for more than 108,000 peo­ple in three prov­inces was af­fected, the min­istry said. Eleven of­fi­cials, in­clud­ing the deputy­mayor of Long­nan, have been pun­ished for vi­o­lat­ing the Party code of con­duct.
