Fe­male im­poster jailed for fraud

A woman, sur­named Yang, who pre­tended to be the daugh­ter of a Malaysian busi­ness ty­coon, has been sen­tenced to 14 years in jail for de­fraud­ing a man, sur­named Li, out of more than 5 mil­lion yuan ($750,000). Yang claimed to be the niece of well-known Malaysian ac­tress Michelle Yeoh and said she worked in the Ger­man Con­sulate Gen­eral in China. She asked Li to loan her the money in 2012 for an in­vest­ment that never ma­te­ri­al­ized. Yang was also fined 14,000 yuan.
