Ex-se­nior of­fi­cials pun­ished over graft

Two for­mer se­nior of­fi­cials were sen­tenced for ac­cept­ing bribes by a court in Nan­tong on Wed­nes­day. Nie Chunyu, for­mer sec­re­tary-gen­eral of the Com­mu­nist Party of China Shanxi Pro­vin­cial Com­mit­tee, was sen­tenced to 15 years in prison for ac­cept­ing bribes amount­ing to nearly 45 mil­lion yuan ($6.68 mil­lion), while Bai Yun, for­mer mem­ber of the Stand­ing Com­mit­tee of the Com­mu­nist Party of China Shanxi Pro­vin­cial Com­mit­tee, was sen­tenced to 12 years in prison for ac­cept­ing bribes amount­ing to 17.8 mil­lion yuan, ac­cord­ing to the Nan­tong In­ter­me­di­ate Peo­ple’s Court. They were both found guilty of tak­ing ad­van­tage of their po­si­tions to seek prof­its for oth­ers be­tween 2004 and 2013.
