Poach­ing blamed for death of swans

Tests have re­vealed that 233 dead swans found in a lake in Zhenglan Ban­ner, Xilin­gol League, died from chem­i­cal poi­son­ing, likely at the hands of poach­ers, lo­cal au­thor­i­ties said on Tues­day. A pes­ti­cide called car­bo­fu­ran was de­tected in sam­ples taken from the dead birds, ac­cord­ing to the lo­cal gov­ern­ment. Po­lice have of­fered cash rewards— 100,000 yuan ($14,770)— for tip-offs lead­ing to the ar­rest of poach­ers.
