Alibaba boosts its rural pres­ence

China’s e-com­merce gi­ant Alibaba has in­creased its pres­ence in rural ar­eas. The num­ber of “Taobao vil­lages” — vil­lages where more than 10 per­cent of house­holds run on­line stores with an­nual on­line rev­enue of 10 mil­lion yuan ($1.47 mil­lion) — reached 1,311 by the end of Au­gust, ac­cord­ing to a re­port by the com­pany’s re­search arm.
