Ti­bet’s cap­i­tal fills act­ing mayor post

Go Khok, for­mer deputy Party chief of Lhasa, cap­i­tal of the Ti­bet au­ton­o­mous re­gion, has been ap­pointed the city’s act­ing mayor, the au­thor­ity an­nounced on Mon­day.

The post had been va­cant for four months since Zhang Yan­qing, the city’s pre­vi­ous mayor, was ap­pointed top of­fi­cial of Xigaze, an­other city in the re­gion, in June.

Go Khok, 49, was ap­pointed to the post at the 27th Ses­sion of the 10th Lhasa Peo­ple’s Congress Stand­ing Com­mit­tee.

A na­tive of a Ti­betan eth­nic group, GoKhok was born in Maizhokung­gar county, which is about 70 kilo­me­ters east of Lhasa.

He is said to have vast ex­pe­ri­ence of work­ing in Lhasa and nearby coun­ties un­der Lhasa’s ju­ris­dic­tion, hav­ing worked in the city’s cul­ture and tourism sec­tors be­fore be­ing named head of Nyemo county in 2007.

In 2010, he was elected deputy­mayor of Lhasa. Three years later, he was ap­pointed head of Lhasa’s Cheng­guan district. In June this year, he was pro­moted to deputy Party sec­re­tary of Lhasa.

“I con­sider him a prag­matic and ca­pa­ble of­fi­cial. He is a po­lite man who main­tains a low-pro­file ,” said Ji Jin­gang, an of­fi­cial of the city’s Party com­mit­tee.
