Fines im­posed for false quake alarms

The pro­vin­cial gov­ern­ment has is­sued a reg­u­la­tion on early earth­quake warn­ings, stip­u­lat­ing that those spread­ing false warn­ings will be fined a min­i­mum of 5,000 yuan ($734). The pro­vi­sions will come into force on Jan 1. Under the reg­u­la­tion, any place with a higher con­cen­tra­tion of peo­ple, such as schools and hos­pi­tals, will have to in­stall a warn­ing sys­tem. A max­i­mum fine of 30,000 yuan could be handed down to those who cause se­vere con­se­quences by spread­ing false in­for­ma­tion or de­lib­er­ately caus­ing prob­lems at warn­ing fa­cil­i­ties.
