‘New’ iPhone was in fact sec­ond­hand

A woman in Wen­zhou who pre­ordered a new iPhone 7 from the of­fi­cial Ap­ple web­site on Sept 9 was sur­prised to find a stranger’s pho­tos on the de­vice when it ar­rived on Oct 27. The woman, sur­named Huang, found a to­tal of 82 pho­tos that had been taken be­tween Sept 28 and Oct 17. When she con­tacted cus­tomer sup­port, Huang was of­fered a new phone, but she re­fused as she wanted to know why she had been sent a sec­ond­hand de­vice. Un­der Chi­nese con­sumer pro­tec­tion law, the web­site could be forced to send Huang three iPhone 7s as com­pen­sa­tion.
