Prov­ince says it will cut pol­lu­tion

Shanxi prov­ince has joined other re­gions in north­ern China in tak­ing steps to mit­i­gate air pol­lu­tion dur­ing the fall and win­ter. The coal-rich prov­ince will cut the lev­els of PM2.5 (par­tic­u­late mat­ter with a di­am­e­ter of 2.5 mi­crom­e­ters or less) and sul­fur diox­ide by 40 per­cent from Oc­to­ber to March, the provin­cial En­vi­ron­men­tal Pro­tec­tion Bureau said on Wed­nes­day. Lo­cal gov­ern­ments in north­ern China are tak­ing harsher mea­sures to fight air pol­lu­tion, with more res­i­dents in­creas­ingly wor­ried about their health.
