Photo show on B&R Initiative in Berlin set to boost cultural ties
BERLIN — An exhibition of 43 photos featuring achievements of the Belt and Road Initiative — as well as landscapes of participating countries — has kicked off recently in the German capital to great interest, officials said.
Wang Weidong, minister counselor of commerce of the Chinese embassy in Germany, said at the opening ceremony last week in the Chinese Culture Center in Berlin that the initiative was a regional cooperation platform characterized by openness and inclusiveness.
“We welcome German industry’s participation in this initiative and look forward to your constructive ideas and concrete proposals on how China and Germany can work together better and more pragmatically in this context,” Wang said.
After the opening ceremony, the audience of about 60 people walked through the photo gallery, stopping repeatedly to take in the works.
Bernd Jakobi, a bookkeeper in Berlin, told Xinhua News Agency that he read a lot from books and newspapers about the concept behind the Belt and Road Initiative.
“It’s a huge project,” he said.“I think it is going to change the world.”
Jakobi said although there would be some conflicts of interests between China and the United States, he believed the project would bring benefits to countries along the route.
His wife, Ira Jakobi, was impressed by photos of the Hena Expressway in the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region in South China, a road winding through a picturesque valley featuring karst landforms and bright yellow crop fields.
“I was impressed by the big roads and bridges,” she said.
Rolf Bobach, at the Innovation and Education Center of Hohen Lukow, said the exhibition enabled him to learn about the thinking behind the massive undertaking by the Chinese, which was helpful.
As a chemist, he said he looked forward to cooperating with the Chinese scientists and scientific institutions of the countries along the Belt and Road, in such areas as environmental protection during industrial manufacturing. The exhibition will last until Aug 29.
