2017 BRICS Summit —the BRICS mechanism has entered its second “golden decade”
From September 3 to 5, the leaders from Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa met in Xiamen for the 9th BRICS Summit. On September 4, Chinese President Xi Jinping chaired the 9th BRICS summit, calling on the group of five emerging economies to intensify cooperation and contribute more to a world troubled by protectionism and imbalanced development. During the summit, China held the Dialogue of Emerging Market and Developing countries, where leaders of the five BRICS Plus countries of Egypt, Guinea, Mexico, Tajikistan and Thailand, were invited to join the BRICS leaders. This Chinaproposed model is considered part of a bid to promote BRICS as a leading platform for South-South cooperation.
