1. Data of 1979, 1981-1984 and 1986-1989 is cal­cu­lated based on data re­leased by the NBS, and other data is from the NBS’s China Sta­tis­ti­cal Year­book (2000).

2. In 1995 and be­fore, the state sec­tor of econ­omy in­cluded state-owned in­dus­trial en­ter­prises; in 1996 and there­after, the scope of the state sec­tor of econ­omy was changed to state-owned and state-con­trolled en­ter­prises. This is why the data val­ues of 1996 changed abruptly.

3. In 1998, the NBS mod­i­fied the sta­tis­ti­cal scope of in­dus­trial en­ter­prises. In or­der to com­pare with pre­vi­ous years, the NBS ad­justed the data of 1998 and 1999. In prin­ci­ple, the data of 2000 and sub­se­quent years is not fully com­pat­i­ble with data of pre­vi­ous years (see China Sta­tis­ti­cal Year­book 2000 “13 -1 Num­ber of In­dus­trial En­ter­prises of Var­i­ous Eco­nomic Types and Their Gross Out­put” Note 3).
