Xi’s First Over­seas Trip since Re-elec­tion

July 19, Abu Dhabi, UAE: Chi­nese Pres­i­dent Xi Jin­ping, his wife Peng Liyuan and the United Arab Emi­rates (UAE) Vice Pres­i­dent and Prime Min­is­ter Sheikh Mo­hammed bin Rashid Al Mak­toum pose for the me­dia. Xi kicked off his state visit to the UAE the same day, the first by a Chi­nese head of state to the coun­try in 29 years.

Xi noted that the UAE was the first stop of this over­seas trip as well as the first coun­try he vis­ited since his re-elec­tion as pres­i­dent of the Peo­ple’s Repub­lic of China. This shows that China at­taches great im­por­tance to its re­la­tion­ship with the UAE, he stressed.

After de­part­ing from the UAE, Xi paid state vis­its to Sene­gal, Rwanda and South Africa, at­tended the 10th BRICS sum­mit in Jo­han­nes­burg and vis­ited Mau­ri­tius dur­ing a stopover.
