Ac­cord­ing to ob­ser­va­tion records, in the first year that Asian openbills ap­peared in China, lo­cal birds, such as the egret, tended to keep their dis­tance from th­ese “new im­mi­grants.” But the fol­low­ing year, Asian openbills were ac­cepted into the com­mu­nity and be­came a bird species no dif­fer­ent from the lo­cal ones. Af­ter for­ag­ing, Asian openbills like to rest in lines along farm­land at the water’s edge, preen­ing.
