UN Peace­keep­ing Force Win­ner

Zhang Qin, a Chi­nese fe­male sol­dier in UN peace­keep­ing mis­sion in Juba, cap­i­tal of South Su­dan, was awarded the “Peace Medal of Honor,” the high­est honor of the UN peace­keep­ing force, along with her com­rades in arms, by the UN of­fi­cials on Oc­to­ber 4 for their con­tri­bu­tions to main­tain­ing peace in South Su­dan dur­ing the past year.

Zhang Qin stud­ied in Chengdu Univer­sity in south­west China’s Sichuan Prov­ince and ma­jored in ra­dio and tele­vi­sion be­fore en­list­ing. She al­ways wanted to join the army and was en­listed dur­ing her sopho­more in 2013. She is pro­fi­cient in shoot­ing, climb­ing and other mil­i­tary skills, and is also flu­ent in English, Ara­bic and Ja­panese.
