Development goals for renewable energy industry in China
China will continue to encourage the development and utilization of renewable energy, and increase its proportion in total energy consumption. It is expected that renewable energy technology and independent innovation capability and equipment manufacturing level will be substantially improved, and a sound renewable energy industrial system will be implemented.
By 2020, annual use of renewable energy will reach an equivalent of 730 million tons of standard coal. Various renewable energy heating systems and sustainable fuel will help reduce the consumption of fossil fuels by about 150 million tons of standard coal, while the commercial utilization of renewable energy will account for up to 580 million tons of standard coal, or 12.1% of the total energy consumption.
From the perspective of renewable energy power generation, by 2020, the total installed capacity of renewable energy will reach 680 million kilowatts, and the electricity production comes to 1.9 trillion kwh, accounting for 27% of the total output. Specifically, the capacity of conventional hydropower (including pumped storage) will be 380 million kilowatts, wind power at least 210 million kilowatts, solar power approximately 110 million kilowatts, and biomass power around 15 million kilowatts. The electricity production from renewable energy will be 1.86 trillion kwh. As to renewable energy heating and fuel, China will continue to expand solar thermal utilization to 800 million square meters, geothermal heating (cooling) area to 1.8 billion square meters, as well as increase the consumption of biomass moulding fuels to 30 million tons, bio-natural gas to 8 billion cubic meters, and bio-liquid fuels to 6 million tons.
