One-of-akind bags from Sir Charles

City Weekend - - What's In It - Bidisha Mullick

Acute, fancy clutch is a must-have item for every person. Every clutch shows a glimpse of the owner’s personality and style. Vintage, bling, or contemporary, it's up to you. But if you want a piece that’s exclusive with a price tag that doesn’t hurt your wallet, then Sir Charles’ handmade clutches are sure to make you (and your wallet) happy. From the beautiful Caribbean, Andrew Charles’ style is abstract and independent. Inspired by his mother, he made a clutch from the sticks of coconut leaves at the age of 14 that won him a prize at a local cultural festival. Since then, he’s taken it on as a hobby to create clutches from recycled items. Coming to China eight years ago, he still takes time out of his day job as the global relocation manager for an international school to work on his hobby. He collects dif- ferent scraps from factories; be it untreated leather, scraps of linen, bamboo, whatever catches his eye. From treating to cutting to sewing, everything is done by hand. It was a shock for us to find out that Andrew is clinically colorblind and yet he still manages to be a pro, creating gorgeous works of art. His clutches (¥500-¥1,200) are all one-of-a-kind, unusual in size, quirky, and unisex. If you want to make a statement at the next party, then scan the QR code to contact Sir Charles.
