They say time flies when you are having fun and this year marks the seventh Christmas edition of Crave magazine. I can’t help but reminisce about the very first December edition our team put together back in 2010, filled with festive features and heartwarming recipes.
As the magazine evolved, Crave’s seasonal edition began to expand by celebrating Hong Kong and Macau’s most noteworthy eateries and talents of the year in our annual Bites of Distinction awards. And in this issue, we are pleased to announce our picks for 2017.
The past 12 months have witnessed notable changes in the culinary landscape. Despite a bearish financial outlook, restaurateurs and chefs have proved to be boldly innovative in introducing new concepts to the dining scene.
Healthy eating prevails in most new openings with many boasting produce- and seafood-focused menus bursting with flavour.
For those looking to indulge in the occasional tipple, this year’s bar scene showcased novelty clubs, stylish bars and lush speakeasies.
In essence, diners are being offered a plethora of new choices at affordable price points.
So who are this year’s winners and how did we choose them? Obviously the quality of the cuisine was the foremost priority in our selection process. However, at Crave, we believe ambience, service and pricing each have a role in defining a restaurant’s rating.
