With its kitschy Chi­nese stereo­type im­agery, logo that de­clares that it is “NOT made in China,” and even its eye­brow‐rais­ing name, it’s ob­vi­ous that Fook Yew doesn’t take it­self too se­ri­ously—un­til it comes to the food. The restau­rant’s two out­lets, in Jakarta’s Grand In­done­sia and Gan­daria City malls, put new twists on clas­sic Shang­hai cui­sine to cre­ate de­li­cious dishes, such as the sig­na­ture sheng jian bao, pan‐fried buns filled with bold fla­vors such as chicken and chili crab and beef black pep­per. Fook Yew also put its own touch on bub­ble tea by cre­at­ing wild con­coc­tions and brand‐new al­co­holic cock­tails.
