SOUND THINKING

DestinAsian - - GOOD TO GO - — Christabelle Palar

Ever the youthful and spirited child in the Starwood family, W Hotels has turned up the music with its first-ever Sound Suite, a private recording studio at W Retreat & Spa Bali. The space is largely the brainchild of the brand’s North American music director, DJ White Shadow, who wanted to address issues faced by traveling musicians. “I’ve run into many challenges including costly studio rentals, the risk of disturbing other guests, and not being able to find a suitable place to listen to or create music,” he says. The 50-square-meter studio comprises a mixing room and lounge alongside a vocal room with direct access to a garden. It’s intended as a place to nurture local talent, while catering to those from Singapore and others passing through the region. Looking ahead, W is slated to open music studios at its properties in Hollywood, Barcelona, and Seattle by the end of the year ( wretreatbali.com; doubles from US$295).
