UPDATE
Singapore’s opulent Atlas bar; Frieze New York returns; an inaugural trek in eastern Nepal.
With the recent addition of a 1920s-themed bar, Atlas, in the lobby of Parkview Square, there’s now a compelling reason for both locals and out- of-towners to visit Singapore’s formidable “Gotham Building.” Here, a collection of over 1,000 gin bottles looms above patrons in an eight-meter tower, while an exclusive rose gold– plated room houses no less than 250 labels of champagne, including one rescued from a shipwreck. Cocktails are by Czech master Roman Foltán from Artesian in London— ranked the World’s Best Bar for four consecutive years (from 2012 to 2015)— and the European-accented menu comes courtesy of the celebrated Genoa-born chef Daniele Sperindio. My advice? Pair the multilayered Atlas martini, made with a London dry gin and champagne vinegar, with the toothsome bruschetta of blue prawn, sea urchin, pomegranate, and ossetra caviar. Once you’ve had your fill, head upstairs to the brand-new Parkview Museum, where the inaugural exhibition “On Sharks and Humanity” mixes contemporary art with a message on marine conservation ( atlasbar. sg).
