CHRISTOPHER P. HILL Wrote “Mauritian Magic,”

On his third trip to the Indian Ocean island nation, DestinAsian’s editor-in-chief learned there was still plenty to discover in Mauritius, particularly when it came to eating. “My biggest surprise on this visit was just how thrilled I was to be back,” he says. “Of course, staying at one of the island’s top resorts, the gorgeous Shangri-La’s Le Touessrok, didn’t hurt. But when I did manage to pull myself away from my oceanfront room, Le Touessrok also proved to be an ideal base for exploring Mauritian cuisine—which I would urge anyone to do. From octopus curry and palmheart salad to dishes involving local game and an embarrassment of produce, Mauritius’s multicultural food offerings are impressive to say the least. I’d go back in a heart beat.”
