JASON OVERDORF
Wrote “Restoration Drama,”
“After living in Delhi for a little more than a decade, my wife and I moved to Berlin in 2013, hoping never to come back,” Overdorf recalls. “But it turns out an 18-month break was enough to rekindle my enthusiasm for this grinding, polluted, yet somehow charming metropolis. The hiatus also helped me notice some big changes that had been underway all along, under the radar. Along with a steady mushrooming of swish bars and hipster cafés, the Indian capital has been slowly waking up to its rich historical and architectural heritage. A few years ago, author William Dalrymple likened it to Rome, a comparison that has stuck with me. There’s a long way to go before India can match Italy in capitalizing on those resources. But after meeting some of the visionaries in the avantgarde, I finished this story with a new sense of optimism.”
