Back­street Beijing Walk: Le­ga­tion Quar­ter and Colo­nial Build­ings

Ex­plore the hu­tong and visit local res­i­dents near the Beijing Rail­way Sta­tion and a Methodist church, and then me­an­der in the tree lined streets up Boule­vard Tai­jichang and Zhengyi Lu. Af­ter­wards, par­tic­i­pants will ex­plore the old Beijing Le­ga­tion Quar­ter, which was the area where a num­ber of for­eign lega­tions were lo­cated be­tween 1861 and 1959. They will also view the build­ings of former Euro­pean and Amer­i­can banks, bar­racks, churches and clubs. The tour ends at the New Le­ga­tion Quar­ter – the 103-year-old former US Em­bassy com­pound, which has been con­verted into a lux­u­ri­ous din­ing, arts and en­ter­tain­ment venue. Start­ing in 2000, the CCC has of­fered guided English tours, daytrips and week­end ex­cur­sions.
