Mexico stands strong

Global Times – Metro Beijing - - THE STRATEGIST - By Jose Luis Bernal Rodriguez The author of this message is the Mexican Ambassador to China

On September 19 at 2:14 pm, an earthquake measuring 7.1 degrees on the Richter scale struck Mexico City and its surrounding areas. In the aftermath, the Embassy of Mexico wishes to convey its gratitude for the expressions of solidarity from authorities of the People’s Republic of China and countless members of the diplomatic corps and friends of Mexico in China. The priority is currently focused on the search and rescue activities of people still trapped in the rubble of destroyed buildings as well as providing medical services to those injured. President Enrique Peña Nieto immediately directed the National Emergency Committee to gather in order to evaluate the situation and to coordinate the actions being taken. A three-day national mourning period was decreed in memory of those who lost their lives. With the resilience of our people and the solidarity of brotherly nations all over the world, we remain confident that Mexico will overcome this difficult moment.
