Mex­ico: In­de­pen­dence Day com­mem­o­rated

The Mex­i­can Em­bassy in Bei­jing marked the 207th an­niver­sary of the coun­try’s in­de­pen­dence with a grand cer­e­mony at Re­nais­sance Bei­jing Cap­i­tal Ho­tel on Septem­ber 15. Hun­dreds of peo­ple from var­i­ous sec­tors, in­clud­ing China’s Vice Min­is­ter of For­eign Af­fairs Wang Chao and peo­ple from the lo­cal Mex­i­can com­mu­nity, - ing cer­e­mony was held at the em­bassy in the morning and the cel­e­bra­tion con­tin­ued at the ho­tel in the late af­ter­noon. The Mex­i­can Am­bas­sador to China Jose Luis Ber­nal Ro­driguez gave a speech not­ing the deep­en­ing ties be­tween China and Mex­ico. Guests also ob­served a mo­ment of si­lence in recog­ni­tion of those who lost their lives in the Chi­a­pas and Oax­aca earth­quakes on Septem­ber 7. Mex­i­can singer Sheila Priego sang a tra­di­tional Mex­i­can song. A Mex­i­can Gourmet Fes­ti­val was also held at the ho­tel from Septem­ber 14 to 23.
