The 3rd Sino-Nordic Cup Football Tournament draws crowds
The 3rd Sino-Nordic Cup Football Tournament took place at the Beijing Foreign Studies University on September 23, during which China’s Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Chao, the Norwegian Ambassador to China Geir Otto Pedersen, the Finnish Ambassador to China Jarno Syrjälä, the Icelandic Ambassador to China Stefán Skjaldarson, the Minister of the Danish Embassy Helle Meinertz, the Minister Counselor of the Swedish Embassy Karl-Olof Andersson and the guests from both home and abroad attended the event.
In the opening speech by Wang, he said that the initiative of this competition originated from the collaborative development of China and the Nordic countries.
“Since it was established in 2015, the game has been constantly escalating in the level of management, the contents, creating a new humanistic platform of exchange between China and the Nordic countries,” the vice minister said. “The game itself builds a new bridge for the better understanding and friendship between the Chinese and people of the Nordic countries in China. Furthermore, it opens up a new window for the public to know about the working achievements as well as the good perspectives of Sino-Nordic cooperation.”
The Chinese State Councilor Yang Jiechi together with the Danish Crown Prince Frederik presided at teams of the Danish Embassy and of the Chinese Football Association. After the exciting competition, the game ended in a 5-5 draw, seizing the championships for both sides.
The Sino-Nordic Cup Football Tournament is a series football competitions organized jointly by the Department of European Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Global Times. It is a 5 on 5 football game in which a total of 12 teams from the embassies of the Denmark, Finland, Norway, Iceland and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), the International Department of Central Committee of CPC (IDCPC), the Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM), the Chinese Football Association (CFA), the Global Times, Beijing Foreign Studies University and Beijing Sports University participated in the game.
