The 3rd Sino-Nordic Cup Football Tour­na­ment draws crowds

The 3rd Sino-Nordic Cup Football Tour­na­ment took place at the Bei­jing For­eign Stud­ies Univer­sity on Septem­ber 23, dur­ing which China’s Vice Min­is­ter of For­eign Af­fairs Wang Chao, the Nor­we­gian Am­bas­sador to China Geir Otto Ped­er­sen, the Fin­nish Am­bas­sador to China Jarno Syr­jälä, the Ice­landic Am­bas­sador to China Ste­fán Sk­jal­dar­son, the Min­is­ter of the Dan­ish Em­bassy Helle Mein­ertz, the Min­is­ter Coun­selor of the Swedish Em­bassy Karl-Olof An­der­s­son and the guests from both home and abroad at­tended the event.

In the open­ing speech by Wang, he said that the ini­tia­tive of this com­pe­ti­tion orig­i­nated from the col­lab­o­ra­tive de­vel­op­ment of China and the Nordic coun­tries.

“Since it was es­tab­lished in 2015, the game has been con­stantly es­ca­lat­ing in the level of man­age­ment, the contents, cre­at­ing a new hu­man­is­tic plat­form of ex­change be­tween China and the Nordic coun­tries,” the vice min­is­ter said. “The game it­self builds a new bridge for the bet­ter un­der­stand­ing and friend­ship be­tween the Chi­nese and peo­ple of the Nordic coun­tries in China. Fur­ther­more, it opens up a new window for the public to know about the work­ing achieve­ments as well as the good per­spec­tives of Sino-Nordic co­op­er­a­tion.”

The Chi­nese State Coun­cilor Yang Jiechi to­gether with the Dan­ish Crown Prince Fred­erik presided at teams of the Dan­ish Em­bassy and of the Chi­nese Football As­so­ci­a­tion. After the ex­cit­ing com­pe­ti­tion, the game ended in a 5-5 draw, seiz­ing the cham­pi­onships for both sides.

The Sino-Nordic Cup Football Tour­na­ment is a se­ries football com­pe­ti­tions or­ga­nized jointly by the De­part­ment of Euro­pean Af­fairs of the Min­istry of For­eign Af­fairs and the Global Times. It is a 5 on 5 football game in which a total of 12 teams from the em­bassies of the Den­mark, Fin­land, Norway, Iceland and the Min­istry of For­eign Af­fairs (MFA), the In­ter­na­tional De­part­ment of Cen­tral Com­mit­tee of CPC (IDCPC), the Min­istry of Com­merce (MOFCOM), the Chi­nese Football As­so­ci­a­tion (CFA), the Global Times, Bei­jing For­eign Stud­ies Univer­sity and Bei­jing Sports Univer­sity par­tic­i­pated in the game.
