PepsiCo GCR President visits 105-year-old super fan

Zhou Enying, a 105-year-old woman living in Lanzhou, Gansu Province in western China, had a special guest for her 105th birthday party recently. Mike Spanos, the president and CEO of PepsiCo Greater China Region (GCR), traveled from Shanghai with birthday greetings and best wishes for this special “super fan” of PepsiCo’s products.

Zhou lived and studied in the US in - ent English. Upon her return to China, she worked as a teacher and later retired from Lanzhou University. When a local newspaper asked her about her life, she said, “There is no secret to longevity. I just love coffee, candies and Pepsi-Cola. This is my simple and natural life.”

When Spanos heard about Zhou from a news report, he was touched and wanted to greet her and thank her in person for her great love of PepsiCo. With the help of friends from the local women’s federation, Spanos’ team got in touch with Zhou’s family and learned that she would celebrate her 105th birthday at the end of October. Spanos was honored to be invited by the family to travel to Lanzhou for the birthday celebration to share best wishes from her fans at PepsiCo. As an old Chinese saying goes, “One hundred years of life deserves admiration and jealousy from the pines and cranes,” and this is very true in the case of Zhou. Spanos presented her with an Outstanding Consumer commemorative plaque from PepsiCo and gave her a lifetime supply of free PepsiCo products made in China, including Quaker Oats, as a token of the company’s gratitude for her loyalty.

“I am humbled and honored to share in her 105th birthday celebration. The fact that Zhou has lived for more than a century is an incredible testament to her positive and optimistic attitude. The entire team at PepsiCo China GCR joins me in wishing her continued happiness and good health. We are very lucky to have such a loyal customer,” Spanos said.
