Mov­ing to a new coun­try, go­ing through a breakup and los­ing a job are all con­di­tions which could be very chal­leng­ing. Yet, there’s no rea­son to suf­fer alone when one can join hands with oth­ers and let the power of con­nec­tion and group sup­port heal us.

In the ab­sence of such so­cial sup­port in Bei­jing, Can­dleX, a non-profit or­ga­ni­za­tion es­tab­lished as an English speak­ing men­tal health peer sup­port group in Oc­to­ber 2015, fo­cuses on men­tal health by rais­ing aware­ness about de­pres­sion. It pro­vides a safe en­vi­ron­ment for peo­ple liv­ing in Bei­jing to share per­sonal ex­pe­ri­ences, thoughts, and feel­ings in small, con­fi­den­tial gath­er­ings.

Cost: 50 yuan (free for peo­ple with in­come less than 6000 yuan/month)
