Hansel and Gretel, directed by Watabe Saburo

Global Times – Metro Shanghai - - CLASSIFIEDS -

Hansel and Gretel, directed by Watabe Saburo and performed by Theater Company Hikosen, takes audiences into a fanciful world filled with gorgeous sets, creatively designed dolls and stunning visual effects. In the heart of a dark forest, two children of a poor carpenter discover a house made out of cake and candy, which just happens to be owned by a cannibalistic witch. Combining music, dance and a design inspired by Japanese anime, the play replaces the darkness of the original Brothers Grimm tale with humor and a lighthearted spirit. It also teaches important lessons about how through keeping our wits and being brave we can outwit the baddies.
