New Shanghai railway station to be built
The National Development and Reform Commission recently approved the construction of a new railway between Taicang of Jiangsu Province and Situan of Shanghai’s Fengxian district, according to eastday.com.
The second phase of construction between Shanghai and Nantong of Jiangsu Province will cost 36.82 billion yuan ($5.53 million). The construction is scheduled to be completed within five years.
According to the approval document, the line will extend 111.8 kilometers and six stations, including Shanghai East Railway Station.
As Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Planning and Land Resources decided last September, the new station will be located in Zhuqiao town of Pudong New Area. With 10 platforms and 22 lanes, the new station will become Shanghai’s fourth high-class railway station.
According to the Shanghai Railway Bureau, construction is expected to start later this year.
