Or­gan do­na­tions sur­pass 400 mark in Shang­hai

The Red Cross So­ci­ety of China Shang­hai Branch has an­nounced it has sur­passed its tar­get of 400 or­gan do­na­tions since 2013, ac­cord­ing to a re­port in the Xin­min Evening News on Thurs­day.

The very first case of an or­gan do­na­tion in the city oc­curred in Au­gust 2013 when the liver and kid­neys of a cit­i­zen sur­named Huang were used af­ter his death from an in­tracra­nial hem­or­rhage.

Then, the China Or­gan Trans­plant Re­sponse Sys­tem was able to suc­cess­fully match his or­gans with three pa­tients suf­fer­ing from or­gan fail­ure.

Ac­cord­ing to statis­tics, there had been 200 cases of or­gan do­na­tion made in Shang­hai by June 2016.

The util­ity rate of liv­ers and kid­neys is the high­est among all or­gans do­nated, at around 92 per­cent of all trans­plants. The or­gan do­na­tion rate in Shang­hai is 2.5 times higher than the rest of China.
