“I shouldn’t have made up such a rumor.” A man surnamed Sheng was found spreading rumors on Weibo, one of China’s popular social media platforms, that the policeman who threw a woman and her infant onto the ground last week in Songjiang district was recognized and beaten by passersby in Shanghai on September 7, thepaper.cn reported Sunday. The video he uploaded to support his rumor was later found to be a different incident from another province. Sheng has been placed into administrative detention. He admitted that when he spotted this video on the Internet, he referred to it as the Songjiang incident.
