Shang­hai Yangtze River Bridge com­pletes re­pairs

Re­pairs and main­te­nance of the steel deck of Shang­hai Yangtze River Bridge, part of the G40 ex­press­way between Shang­hai and North­west China’s Shaanxi Prov­ince, is ex­pected to fin­ish just in time for the Oc­to­ber Na­tional Day hol­i­days, ac­cord­ing to a Wed­nes­day re­port by Jiefang Daily.

Con­nect­ing Changx­ing Is­land and Chen­jia town in Chong­ming dis­trict, the 16.63-kilo­me­ter bridge is a crit­i­cal joint of the na­tional ex­press­way net­work and an im­por­tant channel con­nect­ing Chong­ming with down­town Shang­hai.

The bridge has wit­nessed a rapid in­crease in traf­fic flow since it opened in 2009. To in­sure safety and im­prove trans­porta­tion, the lo­cal author­ity de­cided to re­pair the deck af­ter the pitch be­gan to de­grade from heavy traf­fic loads and tem­per­a­ture changes.

Started on July 11, the con­struc­tion cov­ers 1.43 kilo­me­ters and will be com­pleted by Septem­ber 25.
