Shanghai Yangtze River Bridge completes repairs
Repairs and maintenance of the steel deck of Shanghai Yangtze River Bridge, part of the G40 expressway between Shanghai and Northwest China’s Shaanxi Province, is expected to finish just in time for the October National Day holidays, according to a Wednesday report by Jiefang Daily.
Connecting Changxing Island and Chenjia town in Chongming district, the 16.63-kilometer bridge is a critical joint of the national expressway network and an important channel connecting Chongming with downtown Shanghai.
The bridge has witnessed a rapid increase in traffic flow since it opened in 2009. To insure safety and improve transportation, the local authority decided to repair the deck after the pitch began to degrade from heavy traffic loads and temperature changes.
Started on July 11, the construction covers 1.43 kilometers and will be completed by September 25.
