Foreign stu­dents in Shang­hai in­creases

The num­ber of foreign stu­dents study­ing in Shang­hai has in­creased by 13,000 to over 60,000 in the past five years, with 32 per­cent en­rolled in a de­gree pro­gram, of­fi­cials from the Shang­hai Mu­nic­i­pal Ed­u­ca­tion Com­mis­sion an­nounced Tues­day.

Shang­hai has a sis­ter city re­la­tion­ship with 84 cities from 57 coun­tries and re­gions with co­op­er­a­tion and ex­change in the area of ed­u­ca­tion, arts, sports and tech­nol­ogy, with an ef­fort made to strengthen ed­u­ca­tional ser­vices for the Belt and Road coun­tries and re­gions.

Stu­dents, po­lit­i­cal elites, in­dus­trial pro­fes­sion­als and aca­demic in­no­va­tive tal­ents from these re­gions were spon­sored to train in Shang­hai. The city has also drawn a num­ber of ed­u­ca­tion or­ga­ni­za­tions to re­lo­cate here, such as the Shang­hai Teacher Ed­u­ca­tion Cen­ter of UNESCO.
