Shang­hai leads China in in­no­va­tion, sci­ence

The 2017 Shang­hai Sci­ence and Tech­nol­ogy In­no­va­tion Cen­ter Index Re­port was re­leased dur­ing the Pu­jiang In­no­va­tion Fo­rum Saturday, thep­a­per.cn re­ported.

The re­port aimed to show the gen­eral progress of Shang­hai’s in­no­va­tion. With a bench­mark of 100 points in 2010, Shang­hai scored 224.9 points in 2016, a 22.7 per­cent in­crease from the pre­vi­ous year, the high­est growth on record.

The re­port showed that one-third of China’s lead­ing sci­en­tific achieve­ments were pro­duced in Shang­hai. In 2016, lo­cal sci­en­tific re­search fel­lows pub­lished 39 pieces of re­search in world lead­ing aca­demic jour­nals, in­clud­ing on Sci­ence, Na­ture and Cell.

Shang­hai also swept over one-third of all lead­ing tech­nol­ogy awards in China in 2016, with 52 tech­no­log­i­cal break­throughs win­ning na­tional awards. The city also de­vel­oped one-third of all new med­i­ca­tion. The suc­cess rate of this new med­i­ca­tion is three times above the na­tional level.
