New chil­dren’s li­brary pavil­ion for Pu­tuo dis­trict

A new pavil­ion of Shang­hai Chil­dren’s Li­brary will open in Pu­tuo dis­trict by 2020, Shang­hai Mu­nic­i­pal Ad­min­is­tra­tion of Cul­ture, Ra­dio, Film & TV an­nounced Mon­day.

Ac­cord­ing to the plan, the new chil­dren’s li­brary pavil­ion will cover an area of 16,000 square me­ters and be­gin con­struc­tion by the end of this year.

The li­brary will cater to young read­ers be­tween 4 and 16 years old, with a read­ing space and ex­pe­ri­ence de­signed in ac­cor­dance to the char­ac­ter­is­tics of dif­fer­ent ages and needs.

There will also be a “cre­ative space” de­signed to trig­ger youth­ful in­no­va­tion us­ing ad­vanced tech­nol­ogy as well as “shar­ing spa­ces” where kids from dif­fer­ent cul­tural back­grounds are en­cour­aged to min­gle and com­mu­ni­cate with each other.

The old Shang­hai Chil­dren’s Li­brary pavil­ion, lo­cated on Nan­jing Road West, will re­main in ser­vice and cater to chil­dren un­der 4 years old.
