Global Times – Metro Shanghai - - PULSE -

A new phase in Shanghai’s “teacher reserve and training program” recently launched. According to incomplete statistics, the number of teachers in Shanghai is expected to increase 9,400 in 2018, a much bigger increase than that of 2016, Jiefang Daily reported Tuesday.

The demand for new teachers in Shanghai’s many elite schools has risen in recent years, with those specializing in Chinese, mathematics, English, physics, chemistry, music, sports and the arts desperately needed.

In order to attract high-quality teachers, some districts have launched incentive policies. In 2018, Minhang district plans to recruit 659 teachers for its middle schools, primary schools and kindergartens. The district government will provide housing if the teacher has none at the time of employment.
