Un-seating empathy

Global Times - Weekend - - OPINION -

Offering your seat in a crowded bus to someone in need deserves praise. But being forced to leave it even when ill can cause outrage. An old man learned it the hard way as a video of him forcing a sick child to leave a “Priority Seat” went viral. The man’s selfishness got the better of him as he asked to see medical records even as the kid’s mother pleaded that her child was sick and needed a seat. “Priority Seats,” meant for people in need, are not exclusive to the elderly and should not be used to force someone into submission. It is a shame that the man behaved the way he did. Can one say that the action behoove his age, because he insisted the kid prove his illness?
