Discipline watchdog visited 500 organs
The military discipline watchdog has visited about 500 military organs across China in the beginning of the year, it said Wednesday in the firstever public disclosure of its anti- corruption work.
In an effort to clean up undesirable work styles such as formalism, officialdom, hedonism and extravagance in the military, the Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Central Military Commission ( CMCCDI) announced eight kinds of discipline violations in 10 typical cases.
A total of seven Party committees and discipline inspection committees and 19 officials were called to account. Another 46 officials received disciplinary punishment, the CMCCDI said.
The violations include impermissible reimbursement, private reception using public funds, and abuse of official cars.
The investigation comes after China has intensified its fight against corruption in the recent years.
The investigation by the CMCCDI was “relentless,” a source close to the military told the Global Times.
“Not only the violators were held accountable, but also their superior departments, related discipline watchdogs and leaders,” said the source.
The inspection was carried out by over 10 separate teams of the CMCCDI in about 500 regiments and above in some 100 cities without prior notice, an anonymous insider familiar with military discipline work told the Global Times.
The inspectors received tip- offs, and checked account documents and meeting records during the inspection, which covered retired personnel, generals and military officers from companies.
The disclosure sends a signal to the public that “the CMCCDI will not tolerate any undesirable work styles and will welcome public supervision,” a military officer in western China told the Global Times on condition of anonymity.
The CMCCDI also publicized the names of the people who violated military training regulations on Monday, involving 99 officials and 57 departments.
“The supervision from the CMCCDI aims to upgrade the military combat capacity,” another officer who focuses on formulation of military work styles told the Global Times.
