VE­HI­CLES JD.com tests au­ton­o­mous vans

JD.com Inc, China’s largest re­tailer, has an­nounced part­ner­ships with SAIC Maxus, the lead­ing do­mes­tic com­mer­cial ve­hi­cle man­u­fac­turer, and Dongfeng Mo­tor Corp, the coun­try’s top au­to­mo­bile man­u­fac­turer, to con­duct re­search into China’s first au­ton­o­mous vans.

SAIC Maxus’ elec­tric van can sense ob­sta­cles 150 me­ters away and plans its route by lever­ag­ing its radar sys­tem, sen­sors and po­si­tion­ing sys­tem, ac­cord­ing to a state­ment the com­pany sent to the Global Times on Thurs­day.

JD.com Inc has been tap­ping into ar­ti­fi­cial in­tel­li­gence in re­cent years.

The com­pany also pro­vides var­i­ous sce­nar­ios for au­ton­o­mous vans, which will con­trib­ute to its smart lo­gis­tics ecosys­tems.
